Project Medishare for Haiti, Inc.

When disaster struck Haiti, time was of the essence, and Magno International was on hand, lending expertise and resources to get relief supplies to the beleaguered island as fast as possible.

Contacted by Project Medishare the morning after the earthquake, Magno jumped at the opportunity to assist in the relief efforts being coordinated through this organization. Magno was immediately able to provide critical logistics advice ranging from assisting to properly prepare goods for carriage, negotiating agreements for charters with air carriers, coordinating transfer of goods from collection points to Miami International Airport, and the transportation of critical items for the field hospital that Project Medishare was planning to set up just outside of Port-Au-Prince airport in Haiti.

Magno worked with the air carriers and the FAA to coordinate landing slots and optimize payloads for freight shipments with awkward configurations (like 27 ft. beams). They also worked with government military agencies to transport equipment and items that were too large for typical commercial aircraft and required transportation on Hercules C130’s, including one power generator that was over 20 feet long and weighed in at 24.300 pounds.

Magno’s expertise was vital in streamlining operations, overcoming obstacles, and solving problems throughout a relief effort often complicated by the very challenging conditions on the ground in Haiti and the need to maintain compliance to US and International regulations while keeping an efficient flow of life-saving supplies down to Haiti. Magno’s logistical background helped them locate a DG (Dangerous Goods) consultant to certify the various generators, AC units, oxygen tanks and other equipment to be shipped.

Between Friday Jan 15th and Saturday Jan 23rd, Magno facilitated 11 flights, with an average payload of 40,000 pounds. They also helped organize ocean freight shipments and additional air freight out of nearby Opa-Locka airport. The men and women of Magno International were grateful that they could contribute much needed help and expertise to this critical relief effort.
